NIGERIAN police have arrested the outlaw leader of a banned militant organisation 20 months after he was declared wanted following bloody riots in which hundreds of people died. Police arrested Ganiyu Adams, the leader of the most hard line faction of the banned Odua People’s Congress (OPC) on Tuesday. Adams was arrested as he led a gang of OPC members to attempt to break out arrested fellow OPC members from a Lagos police station, Okiro’s office said. The OPC was formed in 1995 to fight for the autonomy for the ethnic Yoruba people of southwest Nigeria. – AFP
