A NIGERIAN university said on Thursday that it has expelled more than 100 students for fraud and impersonation. The University of Jos in central Plateau State said in an official statement that 102 students had gained entry into the university “through improper means.” “Some of the students had fake academic entry qualifications, some impersonated other students … and some of them were without requisite entry qualifications,” it said. Two weeks ago, authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, in southwestern Osun State, said it had expelled more than 200 students who were discovered to have lied in their admission papers. Last month, the University of Benin in southern Edo State said it had expelled a total of 208 students for similar offences. More than 2,000 students have been expelled in Nigerian tertiary academic institutions this year. – AFP
