ZIMBABWE POLITICIANS ACCEPT ABUJA DEAL

ZIMBABWE’S top politicians have endorsed a land deal brokered in Nigeria which aims to end the country’s land crisis, the state-owned Herald reported on Tuesday. The politburo of the ruling Zanu-PF party met on Monday, endorsed the agreement signed in Abuja, Nigeria, earlier this month and called for its speedy implementation, the newspaper said. Under the agreement Britain agreed to fund land reform to correct colonial imbalances in land ownership in the country, the bulk of which is owned by the country’s white minority. Zimbabwe in turn committed itself to implementing land reform in accordance with the country’s constitution and laws. “The Politburo stressed the need for urgency in implementing the agreement if the momentum created by Abuja is to be sustained,” Zanu-PF deputy secretary for information and publicity, Jonathan Moyo, told The Herald. – AFP
