CRONJE TRIES TO COME IN FROM THE COLD

THE Pretoria High Court will hear an application beginning on Wednesday by former South African national cricket captain Hansie Cronje to reverse his life-long ban from the sport. The United Cricket Board of SA banned him in November last year from all forms of cricket under its jurisdiction. That came after Cronje admitted to the King commission of inquiry into cricket match-fixing that he had received about $100 000 from bookmakers and had bribed two team mates to underperform in a one-day test match. In papers before the court Cronje said the ban was imposed unfairly and without a hearing. – Sapa
