THE chief executive officers of provincial hospitals in Gauteng are to have more power to hire and fire from Monday, SABC radio news reported. This in accordance with the recommendations of a commission of enquiry appointed a year ago to investigate allegations of ill-treatment of patients at hospitals, and cases of inadequate hygiene. The greater powers are expected to improve not only the management of the province’s hospitals, but also the quality of care received by patients, the SABC said. – Sapa
