African National Congress Women’s League President Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was on Thursday released on bail of R5 000 after appearing on fraud charges in the commercial crime court in Pretoria. She was arrested when she reported to court officials earlier in the morning.
Madikizela-Mandela arrived at court in a luxury Mercedes Benz, and was greeted by friends, her daughter Zinzi and granddaughter Zoleka.
She is to face 60 charges of fraud involving R93 000 and 25 of theft of about R10 000, investigators said.
Madikizela-Mandela is accused number two in an alleged scam involving the use of her signature to fraudulently obtain bank loans. – Sapa
