WHILE thousands of South Africans watched — and rejoiced about –teacher Janine’s eviction from the Big Brother house on Sunday, her fiercely criticised behaviour did not even warrant a mention at Monday’s meeting of the country’s top education authorities. Janine Orderson is a primary school teacher who had permission from the Western Cape education department to appear in the reality TV show ”Big Brother”. Before her eviction she had drawn widespread viewer criticism for simulating fellatio on a cucumber in an episode where inhabitants had to demonstrate a ”talent.” She also uses risqu language and has appeared scantily clad on the show. Addressing reporters after the Council of Education Ministers’ meeting in Pretoria, Education Minister Kader Asmal said possible disciplinary steps against Janine were not discussed. ”The matter is outside our consideration. She had civil liberties. It is not the business of the schools… She was given permission to appear in this appalling programme,” Asmal said. – Sapa
