SWEDEN SIGNS OVER 132M-EURO AID TO MOZAMBIQUE

THE Swedish government signed a cooperation accord with Mozambique on Monday worth 132 million euros ($118-million) in aid, the government said on Monday. The deal, which covers the years 2002 to 2004, aims to support “positive growth in Mozambique (in order to contribute) to stability in southern Africa,” the Swedish Immigration and Humanitarian Aid Minister Maj-Inger Klingvall said. The accord was signed on Monday in Maputo between Klingvall and the Mozambican Foreign Minister Leonardo Simao. Mozambique is one of the poorest and most highly-indebted countries in the world, though its debt has fallen this year from six billion dollars to $800-million, according to Klingvall. – AFP
