HIV/Aids and the war against terrorism vie for space in the South Africa media these days and it was good see that the tragic case of Sibongele and Baby Tinashe was your cover story last week.
President Thabo Mbeki and his compliant associates (not least the minister of health, who should have been booted out long ago) have been responsible for more deaths since coming to office than all the terrorist acts put together.
Does our government and the ANC feel even the tiniest bit of remorse or guilt? Does it ever occur to them that they could be wrong? Do they ever consider that by flying in the face of accepted scientific evidence, and by ignoring Medical Research Council statistics, they are showing the country and the rest of the world they have about as much as intelligence as an Oudtshoorn ostrich? Surely South Africa deserves better leadership than that.
On the Day of Reckoning, Mbeki and his people will have much to answer for. In the meantime, as the wheels of justice grind slowly to a ruling that, hopefully, will put them in the dock of public opinion, many more children like Baby Tinashe will have died tragically and needlessly.
