A CRIPPLING indefinite strike launched by pilots and cabin crew of ailing carrier Air Afrique continued for a third day on Friday as talks between the protestors and the management failed. “The meeting with the director-general did not elicit satisfactory responses to our grievances, therefore the strike will continue,” said Denis Attiba, representative for the strikers. Attiba, however, said fresh talks with the management had been scheduled, adding that it underlined the workers’ commitment to ensure the airline’s survival. He slammed the management for maladministration and corruption, saying: “we will not rest till we have cleaned up the mess.” The strike began from midnight Monday. The protestors are demanding the payment of three months’ salary arrears and want certain decisions taken by the new company boss, Marcel Kodjo of Togo, to be revoked, arguing that they went contrary to an agreement forged with Air France. Air Afrique operates five flights a day on an average. All the flights have been cancelled since the strike began. – AFP
