THE Democratic Alliance has lost its bid to be represented on the City of Johannesburg’s mayoral committee, with a Johannesburg High Court ruling that the committee is legally constituted, The Star newspaper reported on Thursday. The DA brought the case against Johannesburg’s executive mayor Amos Masondo and the minister of provincial and local government. The DA had claimed the ANC was acting unlawfully by excluding the DA, which won a third of all votes in the last municipal elections, from the mayoral committee. Masondo said he was happy with the outcome and that it was now time to get on with the business of running the city. DA Johannesburg leader Mike Moriarty said he was disappointed. He would examine the judgment and decide whether to appeal, the paper reported. -Sapa
