MONEY GUARD SHOT DEAD NEAR PE

A 20-year-old Fidelity guard was shot dead during a cash-in-transit heist on the N2 near Port Elizabeth early on Friday morning, Eastern Cape police said. Captain Dirk Coetzee said three guards were travelling in a Telkom vehicle when two cars pushed them off the road near the Greenbushes off-ramp. Shots were fired and one guard was shot dead. Another guard was shot in a knee and a third was suffering from shock. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen. The ten robbers fled in two cars, one in the direction of Jeffery’s Bay and the other in the direction of Port Elizabeth. The guard’s identity could not be released until his next of kin were informed.
