TWO men have been detained for questioning in connection with the death of a three-year-old boy who was shot dead during a housebreaking in Groenkloof on Friday morning, Pretoria police said. Inspector Percy Morokane said the two men were apprehended at the Walker railway station in Sunnyside by members of the murder and robbery unit. Morokane reported earlier in the day that three men broke into 50 Herbert Baker Street around 3.15am and proceeded to the main bedroom where a couple and a boy were sleeping. His father woke up and one of the men fired a shot, hitting the boy in the stomach. A domestic worker informed the police who arrived on the scene while the intruders were still there. One of the men rushed out of the house, firing shots at the police. Police returned fire and he was shot dead. The other two ran away. The boy was rushed to hospital where he later died. His parents were unharmed, Morokane said. Two suspects were subsequently arrested at the railway station. – Sapa
