MAN CHARGED WITH RAPING A WOMAN (101)

A man appeared in the Upington Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of attempting to rape a 101-year-old woman, Northern Cape police said on Wednesday. Inspector Chantel Manuel said the incident occurred in the town around 5.30pm on Saturday. The woman’s granddaughter arrived at home and found the man, who visits her grandmother regularly in the house. He was using the toilet. The granddaughter then left the house and when she returned 10 minutes later, the man (47) was still there. She asked him what he was doing at the house and the man replied that the grandmother had called him. ”She allegedly left the house again after a while when she returned again her grandmother told her that the same man tried to rape her,” Manuel said. The victim sustained minor injuries to her neck. – Sapa
