A brand-new tag for Joy of Jazz

Speaking at the label’s recent launch in Johannesburg, Harvey Roberts, managing director of Bula Music, said: “We have always wanted to extend the platform provided by our festivals by providing artists with an opportunity to record their work.”

The label has been launched with the release of the albums Leqa by Sizwe Zakho, Frankly Speaking by Sankomota and Mesh Mapetla Presents Jazz in South Africa Volume I, a compilation by the respected broadcaster.

The Joy of Jazz concerts have become a prominent feature of the live music scene, taking place in Cape Town at the Jazzathon and One City Festival, in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, Joy of Jazz International Music Festival in Johannesburg in September and the annual grand finale, Standard Bank Jazz in the Park, at Moretele Park, Pretoria, on December 9.

This year’s event will feature United States fusion outfit Yellow Jackets and a host of other musicians (see music listings page), who will participate in the workshops.
