at 8pm attend the silver jubilee gala concert of the Cape Town Male Voice Choir. For two and a half decades the choir has shared with audiences the joys of choral music. South Africa’s hottest up-and-coming inspirational stars, the 21-year-old Neville, who promotes his debut CD. Dorp Street Theatre, Dorp Street, Stellenbosch. On Sunday December 9 songstress Jennifer Ferguson appears from 9pm in In Between/Tussen In. Having completed her annual migration between Sweden and South Africa, Ferguson showcases a reworked version of her acclaimed Baie Lewendig in Oudtshoorn series of concerts. Expect an exciting fusion of sounds, from Swedish traditional songs in the modern South African idiom to Ferguson’s distinctive arrangements of traditional Afrikaans songs, Ingrid Jonker poems, powerful new compositions and some of her earlier songs. join the Cape’s own Mama Afrika, Sylvia Mdunyelwa, and her quintet. She has just released her second album on the BMG label. Sunday December 9 features the sassy vocal sounds of the Erika Lundi Trio. On Monday December 10 pianist Mark Fransman leads his trio. Tuesday December 11 hosts Latin-esque singer Natasha Roth with her trio. Wednesday December 12 features the regular Gavin Minter Quartet. On Friday December 7 from 11pm Concept Factory presents Steve Lawler, just voted number 9 in the world by DJ Magazine, at Sky and Angels in the heart of the Green Point club district. GrooteKerk, Cape Town. The musicians of the Cape Philharmonic will join a

huge choir of more than 200 people, comprising the Tygerberg Civic Choir, the Pro Cantu Choir and the Groote Kerk Camerata, in a Christmas-carols concert with a touch of Mozart on Thursday December 13 at 8pm. Conducted by Roucher du Toit with soloists Hanneli Rupert and Marianne Serfontein, the programme includes Mozart’s Regina Coeli and Symphony No 29, K201, followed by well-known Christmas carols arranged by David Willcocks and sung in English and Afrikaans. December 7 Golliwog bring the funk. On Saturday December 8 and Tuesday December 11 Max Normal raps the room ragged. The Jam, De Villiers Street, Cape Town. On Friday December 7 LP Show, Dirty Locals and Ignorance Is Typical perform. Low-down dirty punk is at the order of the day. On Saturday December 8 promoter Nasief returns with another Beat Bangaz party. You know the DJs, you know the vibe; you know you’ll have a blast.

Jo’burg, Long Street, Cape Town. Saturday afternoons feature Efrain Toro (drums), Andrew Lilley (keyboards), James Scholfield (guitar), Dave Ridgeway (electric bass), guest vocalist Natascha Roth and possibly another drummer playing a mixture of originals and standards. Performances run from 12.30pm until 4pm. On Sunday December 9 mall-rapping Max Normal return with their eclectic, phat jams.

Mother City Queer Project. The eighth Mother City Queer Project costume

party takes place on Saturday December 15 at the River Club in Observatory. The theme this time round is FarmFresh. Team up in matching outfits, dressed as anything agricultural, from sexy shepherds, stable hands, fruits of the earth and mad cows to porn fields and gorgeous grooms. There are eight dance floors including Lekker Line Dancing, Daisy’s Disco Dairy, Hen House, Tractor Trance and more. Animal instincts, anyone? Starts at 9pm. Management and Promotions present this festival from December 15 to 17. Expect a staggering diversity of musical styles on display, from punk and alternative to rock and hardcore. Bands confirmed include Flowerheads, Kelvin Declined, Hog Hoggidy Hog, New World Inside, Froy, Velvet Mary, Village Seed, LP Show, New Flying Machine, Neshamah, Aftertaste, Empire Down, Fudge, My Latest Ex, Dirty Locals, The Rudimentals, Time Spent, Bleach, State Far Better, Ghost and Vanessa Nolan. Phew! Saturday is punk and hardcore and Sunday is a more mellow day with rock and alternative bands performing. Stardust, West Street (old Fat Boys venue, off Somerset Road), Green Point. Household Gauteng gay club Stardust goes all-coastal and Capetonian with the launch of Stardust Peninsula on December 7, December 8 and December 9. Open from Wednesday to Sunday, it promises to bring a new dimension in upmarket clubbing to Cape Town. A new feature is ESP in the Cape on Sundays, when the club opens at noon for a chill-out experience not seen before. Entrance will be competitive and dress strictly smart casual. The opening nights will have entertainment by XTC, the strip group; Pussycats from Pretoria; and Stardust, ESP and Cape Town DJs.
