Cape police vow to catch cop killer

The policeman who was shot in the head in Khayelitsha on Monday afternoon has died in a Cape Town hospital, Western Cape police reported.

Representative Captain Neville Malila said that 35-year-old Inspector David McClean was surrounded by family and friends when he died around 9am on Tuesday.

McClean and close friend Inspector David Landon (31) both of Parow, were shot at when they pursued a suspicious vehicle in the L Block area on Monday afternoon.

McClean who was hit in the head was taken to the Mitchell’s Plain clinic from where he was airlifted to the N1 City Hospital.

Landon, who was not injured, was treated for shock.

Western Cape police commissioner Lennit Max expressed his shock and outrage at the attack.

He said a task team of detectives was working around the clock to apprehend the three attackers.

”We will leave no stone untouched in our pursuit of the suspects. An attack on police officers constitutes a direct assault on the organs of the state. It poses a threat to the very fabric of

law and order in our communities,” Max said.

Police later recovered a stolen car in Makhaye in Khayelitsha. – Sapa
