Cape Town magistrate shot in his driveway

A Cape Town Regional Court magistrate was seriously wounded when several shots were fired at him as he was about to get into his car at his home in Brandwag near Kuils River on Friday.

Police representative Superintendent Riaan Pool said attackers fired several shots from a moving vehicle at Marthinus Langenhoven (61) around 8.30am as he got into his car which was parked in his driveway.

Langenhoven was seriously wounded and taken to a nearby hospital.

Pool said Director Riaan Booysen, the provincial commissioner of the serious and violent crime unit had been tasked by provincial commissioner Lennit Max to investigate the attack.

Detectives from the police’s forensics unit were at the scene combing the area for clues.

Pool said the motive for the attack was unknown but it is believed that Langenhoven was due to give judgment in a case involving gangsters in the Parow Regional Court on Friday. – Sapa
