E-Rand mother pimps daughter for beer-money

East Rand police are searching for a woman who has allegedly provided her eight-year-old daughter to various men for sex in exchange for beer, Superintendent Andy Pieke said on Monday.

Pieke said investigations began at the weekend after the girl had reported her abuse — which at times included ”selling” her for R5 — to social workers at the Greenfields informal settlement where she lives with her mother.

According to police, the alleged abuse began shortly after the victim’s father died four years ago.

The girl had been referred to the social workers by the staff of the school she attends in the area.

Pieke said Child Protection Unit members had so far been unable to trace the mother who faces criminal charges.

”The girl alleges that she has been raped by between 10 and 12 men over the years.

”Police will follow up information received in an attempt to trace these men,” he said.

Medical tests had confirmed sexual assault had occurred on the girl who has since been put in a place of safety. – Sapa
