Furore over plans for PE’s birthday suit beach

The African Christian Democratic Party on Tuesday said it was against the Nelson Mandela Metro councillor Mikey Kwenaite’s plan to establish a nudist beach on the Port Elizabeth coast.

ACDP councillor Colin Fibiger said his party supported thousands of metro residents who were up in arms against Kwenaite’s plans.

”I have been inundated with telephone calls from residents, churches and organisations that are shocked at Kwenaite’s persistence with the idea of establishing a nudist beach in Port Elizabeth,” Fibiger said.

”Each time he raises the issue an unnecessary public outcry is brought about and one can only assume Kwenaite has a personal agenda in this matter,” he said.

”There are no substantive reasons for the establishment of a nudist beach, nor any significant public support, and Kwenaite must not expect public funds to pay for his personal preferences.

”Claiming that the need has now arisen due to the increase in Scandinavian tourists is absolute rubbish, and this fact is confirmed by Scandinavian tourist operators,” said Fibiger.

”It is quite disgusting to watch the ANC promote the moral regeneration movement on one hand and then with absolute hypocrisy, do their utmost to destroy every bastion of morality they can find.”

”To use the Scandinavian people as a scapegoat for ANC’s agenda is an insult to the people of the region and Kwenaite owes them an apology both in his personal capacity as well as on behalf of the

Metro,” he said.

”How he expects to attract tourists by insulting them, is beyond me,” Fibiger said. – Sapa
