Golf caddie convicted for murder of Briton

A 19-year-old golf caddie was convicted for the murder a British tourist at an Mpumalanga hotel in October when he appeared in the Middelburg Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Prince Mogane killed Diane Conway (59) when he attacked the Briton and her husband Jon (55) at the Royal Hotel in Pilgrim’s Rest on October 22.

The murder happened on the last day of the couple’s holiday in South Africa.

On Wednesday, Mogane pleaded guilty to and was convicted on five charges, including the murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and the illegal possession of arms and ammunition.

A waiter at the hotel, Richard Mashego (42) was also arrested in connection with the murder. He will appear in the magistrate’s court in Pilgrim’s Rest on February 5 next year.

Last week the trials of the two men were separated at a court appearance in Pilgrim’s Rest.

Mogane is to be sentenced next Wednesday. – Sapa
