Guess what bru? UIF fraud is rife in Cape Town

Supposedly ”laid back” Capetonians appear to be leading the way in fraudulently collecting unemployment benefits while working at the same time, according to figures released by Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana.

In written reply to a question in the National Assembly, he said of the 18 892 ”work and draw” fraud cases reported countrywide between September 1 last year and April 30 this year, 3 790 were in Cape Town.

Not far behind however, was Durban, where 3732 cases were detected.

But if cases reported in Gauteng South, Tshwane, and Germiston were added together, the Gauteng area beat both coastal cities hands down with 4 320.

The fewest cases of all, 327, were reported in the whole of the Northern Cape, Mdladlana said. – Sapa
