Israeli media ‘identify’ Kenya attacks mastermind

The man behind last week’s car bombing and missile attack near Mombasa was identified as a Kenyan on the FBI’s most wanted list, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported on Wednesday.

Faisal Abdullah Mohammad (30) is currently hiding in Somalia, the newspaper quoted western intelligence sources as saying.

Three Israelis were among the 13 victims of last Thursday’s suicide car-bombing on a hotel near the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa. Minutes before the attack, two shoulder-launched missiles missed hitting a tourist-packed Israeli charter flying home from Mombasa.

Mohammad is on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) list of 22 most wanted ”terrorists” and is also suspected of involvement in the 1998 twin bombings of the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam. – Sapa-AFP
