Someone blew two notes on a kudu horn from the court door as alleged bus murderer De Wet Kritzinger entered the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
And a group of people in khaki clothes, many sporting beards, rose as the man accused of shooting seven black people on a city bus made his way into the dock.
”Wit Wolf” Barend Strydom, who killed seven black people and wounded 16 more in a shooting spree on Strijdom Square in Pretoria in 1989, was at court in support for Kritzinger.
Strydom, who was initially sentenced to death, was later released as part of an agreement between the former government and the African National Congress.
Kritzinger (30) faces three charges of murder and four of attempted murder in connection with an
incident in January 2000 when a white man boarded a Mamelodi-bound bus in Constantia Park, Pretoria, and fired a number of shots, killing the bus driver and two passengers. Four people were wounded.
He was finally arrested in Nylstroom (Modimolle) in the Northern Province (Limpopo) on Friday.
A clean-shaven Kritzinger, clad in blue trousers and a blue jacket, stood expressionless in the dock. Magistrate Kallie Bosch remanded him until July 5 so he could obtain legal aid. – Sapa
