The cleanest town in South Africa as well as the dirtiest town will be announced by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism on Wednesday, the department said on Monday.
The department?s representative, Phindile Makwakwa, said the Cleanest Town Competition was initiated by the department to encourage South Africans to take pride in their environment.
The announcement will be made at the celebrations of World Environment Day at the Shawbury College in Qumbu, Eastern Cape.
Countries around the world celebrate World Environment Day on Wednesday with the global theme of ”Give Earth a chance”.
”During this week let us all begin to act for the environment and work together to give Earth a chance. An unpolluted environment is vital to our survival — a precious resource, which will only endure if we give Earth a chance,” Makwakwa said. – Sapa
