Captain Eugene Sitzer said on Friday morning that Sergeant LV Mahobe was shot in the neck when he responded to shots fired at a neighbours’ house.

He said the neighbour was apparently offloading meat at a house in Kanti Street in the township around 9pm when five armed men accosted him and robbed him of his firearm. The robbers allegedly fired some shots and it was believed that Mahobe went to investigate.

The robbers opened fire on him and he was hit. He died at the scene.
