The Cape Peninsula National Park’s efforts to create a unified park stretching from Signal Hill to Cape Point has received a major boost with the acquisition of an additional 2 282 hectares of land.
”Three privately-owned properties and four state-owned properties, with high conservation ratings, are being incorporated into the CPNP,” the park announced in a statement on Thursday.
The private properties consist of 33 hectares on Steenberg below Silvermine; another five hectares in the Hout Bay valley; and a four hectare property in Klawer valley above Simon’s Town.
In addition, four properties, previously owned by the provincial administration have now been officially incorporated into the park. These include Cape Farm 905, comprising 1 185 hectares between Chapman’s Peak, Noordhoek Peak and Constantiaberg; Cape Farm 859, comprising 518 hectares stretching from Devil’s Peak to Nursery Ravine; Cape Farm 901, comprising 505 hectares above Oudekraal and the Twelve Apostles; and Cape Farm 860, consisting of a 34 hectare ”sliver” of land between Devil’s Peak, Knife Edge and Maclear’s Beacon. – Sapa
