Police say initiate (77) was bludgeoned to death

The death of a 77-year-old-man at a Mafikeng initiation school at the weekend was caused by severe beatings, North West police said on Wednesday.

Captain Keaobaka Moses said four teachers and the principal of the initiation school had been arrested and will appear in court soon.

Moses said the body of Simeon Bosbok was exhumed on Monday and the results showed that he was tortured to death.

”He had injuries to the back and on the chest. He was tortured and beaten.”

Moses said the police were investigating the possibility that the elderly man was taken by force to the school near Madibogo village.

The school principal will appear in court on Wednesday while the four assistants will appear on Thursday.

According to police interviews with other boys at the school, the principal was not present when the man was beaten up by another teacher.

A total of 37 boys from initiation schools in the Mafikeng area were still in Gelukspan Hospital on Wednesday as a result of botched circumcisions.

Police on Tuesday closed down two more schools in Kameel village and Geysdorp because of malpractice. – Sapa
