The final report of the commission of inquiry into the rapid depreciation of the rand last year was handed to the government in Johannesburg on Friday.
Commission secretary Chris van Niekerk said in a statement that an official from the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development received the document on behalf of President Thabo Mbeki.
Van Niekerk said that one of the commissioners, Christine Qunta, would submit a minority report at a later stage.
The commission was established by Mbeki in January after he was given information that dubious forces could have caused the rand’s 37% fall last year.
The rand has made a recovery since its slump last year when it reached a record low of R13,85 to the US dollar.
A representative for the Justice and Constitutional Development Department was not available for comment on Friday night and it was not immediately clear when the report, which runs into hundreds of pages, would be made public. – Sapa
