South Africans teach the Brits how to braai

South African Tourism’s Big Braai in London this week was smokin’ — some 17 000 Britons queued for meat and beer, which were sold out before the end of the day.

”We managed to attract not only homesick expats… the majority of people who enjoyed the sunny South African day were indeed Brits — discovering the South African way of having a great time,” said Willem Eksteen, SA Tourism managing director in the United Kingdom.

”Londoners had a great day out and a taste of what true South African hospitality, great food, fine wines, national lager and energising rhythms are all about.”

The South African Big Braai was held at the Coin Street Festival on the south bank of the Thames River at the weekend.

Eksteen said the South African delicacies and lager were sold out before the end of the day.

Hopefully, the event created potential tourists to South Africa.

”All activity was focused as a taster of what can be experienced when travelling in South Africa and we foresee strong awareness and eventually positive tourism results from a great day out,” Eksteen said. – Sapa
