Two men were arrested at the weekend and a third is under police guard in hospital after three schoolboys, in their late teens, were shot and stabbed to death in Khayelitsha on Saturday.
Their bodies were found in a house in Makhaza around 5.30am when police responded to a call.
Captain Eugene Sitzer said it appeared the schoolboys were part of a group of seven teenagers who allegedly stabbed and robbed three men while they were walking in Khayelitsha carrying a hi-fi set.
The three injured men are thought to have followed the seven suspects to their homes. They returned later and attacked the suspects, three of whom died either from shotgun or stab wounds. Four others were injured. Two of the youths are reportedly in a critical condition in Groote Schuur hospital. The other two, with less serious injuries, have been discharged from the G F Jooste Hospital.
Sitzer said two of the men who were also injured were arrested while receiving treatment at hospital while the third was under police guard in the No 2 Military Hospital in Wynberg.
The men are to face charges of murder and attempted murder. Sitzer said the killing was not related to vigilantism. The names of the dead youths have not been released.
The case is being investigated by Detective Glen Peter of the SAPS Khayelitsha task team. – Sapa
