E-CAPE HEALTH MEC FRAUD TRIAL POSTPONED

THE FRAUD trial of suspended Eastern Cape Health MEC Dr Bevan Goqwana was postponed to July 22 in the Umtata High Court on Monday. Goqwana, together with Dr Mkhuseli Mashiyi, faces a total of 1493 counts of fraud involving more than R128000. Goqwana is charged with contravening Act 57 of 1974 of the Health Professionals Council, Section 19(c) by practising as a doctor when he was no longer registered. It is alleged that Mashiyi used practice number 1804944, belonging to Goqwana, and claimed large amounts of money purporting to be a specialist while he was a general practitioner. – Sapa
