A PUPIL died after being hit by a truck carrying sand outside the Tsakane Stadium on the East Rand on Friday where about 700 school children held an ”illegal” gathering. Superintendent Andy Pieke said Jerry Mokoena (17) died after he was admitted at a local hospital. Mokoena took part in the gathering that was held to protest against the arrest of three Pan Africanist Students’ Organisation (Paso) members earlier last week. ”The gathering was illegal and this was conveyed to those at the stadium,” Pieke said. He said the crowd from secondary schools in Tsakane on the East Rand approached the truck driver who was about to deliver sand in the stadium. The driver, however, feared that something could happen to him and started to drive out of the stadium. His truck was then stoned and the windscreen smashed. – Sapa
