NIGERIA, which was suspended from the Commonwealth for four years, will host the next leaders’ summit in 2003, officials said on Tuesday. The main summit to be hosted by President Olusegun Obasanjo will be held in the city of Abuja towards the end of next year, they said. The Nigerian state-run news agency Nan had reported the gathering would be hosted in the Yankari national park, Nigeria’s best known game park, home to herds of elephants and troops of lions, in northern Bauchi State. It is possible the leaders’ retreat could be held in the park, but Commonwealth officials said no decision had been taken yet pending a visit by officials to decide on suitable sites. – AFP
