A NEW card system, whereby victims of crime will be given details of their cases and progress of the investigation, will be launched in Pretoria next week. ”The system to be unveiled on Monday is part of a new national pilot project aimed at improving feedback to victims of crime,” Senior Superintendent Mohlabi Tlomatsana said on Friday. He said a person would be issued with two bank type cards after a crime was reported. ”Card A” would contain the particulars of the case, while ”card B” would have information regarding the developments of the investigation. Tlomatsana said the first card would contain details of the case, the case number, as well as the name and contact details of the investigating officer. The second would record the progress made by the police and would inform the enquirer if the investigating officer had been changed. ”In this way, people will have a great chance of monitoring service delivery. They can even refer complaints to the station commander if they feel that the investigating officer is sloppy.” The enquirer would need to go to a police station and hand over the card to a policeman who would then check the details on a computer. – Sapa
