THE SA Weather Service (SAWS) along with the University of Fort Hare and the Eastern Cape government will commission a R4 million weather radar for the Eastern Cape region on Saturday. The Eastern Cape region – which is frequently affected by severe thunderstorms, hail, floods and tornadoes — currently has no radar coverage. The commissioning of the radar forms part of the SAWS World Meteorological Day celebrations, an event celebrated by weather services around the world. – Sapa
