Radio reporter turns crime fighter

THE station manager of Radio 702 led a chase on Tuesday that

resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old armed robber, police said.

Station manager Yusuf Abramjee (37) who is also the chairman of

the Pretoria Press Club, was sitting in his car in Aqua Marine

Street, Laudium, when he heard people shouting.

He got out of his car and residents told him that a 16-year-old

boy had just been robbed of his cellphone by three people.

Abramjee then led a chase after one of the suspects who was

carrying a knife and threatening to stab Abramjee if he came any

closer, Sebola said.

The youth, 18, then entered a nearby house.

”The house where the suspect ran into was surrounded and he was

arrested. The cellphone together with the knife were recovered,”

Sebola said.

Police were looking into the possibility that the suspect had

been involved in other armed robberies in recent weeks. ? Sapa
