A CAPE Flats boy, aged four, was strangled by a masked intruder in Eastridge in Mitchells Plain on Friday, police said. Superintendent Nina Kirsten said Elsandro Jansen was sleeping in a bedroom with his 20-year-old mother and her boyfriend. The boy’s mother told police her son was sleeping on a mattress on the floor beneath an open window as he was an asthma sufferer. She told police she was awakened by the child crying and saw a balaclava-clad man pulling her son through the bedroom window. She told the police that she ran outside and saw that her child had been strangled. He was rushed to hospital but was certified dead on arrival. Kirsten said police expected to make an arrest soon. – Sapa
