A DELEGATION of the west African regional grouping Ecowas is scheduled to meet in Washington with representatives of the European Union, Bretton Woods institutions and African Development Bank (ADB) on cooperation, a statement said on Tuesday.
The Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) said in the statement sent from Abuja that the body will on Wednesday meet with the EU, World Bank, IMF and ADB officials on strategies for furthering regional integration in the region.
The Ecowas executive secretary, Mohammed Ibn Chambas, will lead his team to the three-day meeting, the statement said.
The meeting will discuss strategies for poverty reduction in the region, monetary issues, trade reforms, particularly preparation of the Ecowas customs union, it said.
A four-member delegation of the Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa, a grouping of French-speaking states, will also attend the meeting and discuss the Ecowas customs union, it added.
The meeting will also discuss Ecowas programmes and projects on air and road transport, energy, telecommunications and gas. – AFP
