SOUTH AFRICAN space tourist Mark Shuttleworth took his compatriots on an an on-air tour of the International Space Station on Tuesday, Russian NTV television reported.
Shuttleworth was shown floating through various compartments of the station, displaying food storages and utilisation procedures and demonstrating how astronauts moved, slept and went through their daily routine in weightless surroundings.
Juggling a globe, Shuttleworth described the scientific work he was conducting on board the station, including experiments on the HIV virus to find a vaccine against the deadly disease and examinations of ocean life.
The 28-year-old South African even showed electrodes attached to his own body, proudly telling his audience that he had volunteered to be a guinea pig in some experiments. – AFP
