South Africa’s top businessmen and women contributed about R420 000 to an education trust which would help Andrew Babeile to further his studies, the Nelson Mandela Foundation said on Thursday.
”We think that he should be able to continue with his studies… even beyond high school,” former president Nelson Mandela told reporters in Johannesburg.
Babeile, a former Vryburg High School pupil, was released on parole on Monday following two years in prison after he stabbed a schoolmate in 1999.
He was sentenced to an effective three years’ imprisonment in May 2000 after being convicted of attempted murder.
On his release on Monday, he urged reporters to grant him the opportunity to rebuild his life. – Sapa
