Prosecutors are to review a submission by lawyers for Irvin Khoza that tax evasion charges against the soccer boss be withdrawn.
Khoza’s legal representative, Andre Bezuidenhout appeared in the Johannesburg Regional Court on Wednesday but no trial date was set. Bezuidenhout handed over to the court a file of technical documents supporting the withdrawal of the charges.
Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Paul Louw, informed the court that he required time to go through the submissions and the case was postponed to February 7 next year.
Khoza is facing four charges of allegedly submitting false personal income tax declarations over a four-year period commencing in 1995 and allegedly failing to declare certain aspects of accounts he held.
Khoza last month settled his personal tax dispute with the SARS, agreeing to pay an outstanding amount of about R7,2-million.
At the time, South African Revenue Service Commissioner Pravin Gordhan said Khoza had accepted personal tax liability totalling about R10,3-million.
He had already paid about R3,1-million. The deal had nothing to do with the pursuit of criminal charges against Khoza, Gordhan said. – Sapa
