Three young Moslem women were killed by suspected secessionist militants in Indian-administered Kashmir allegedly for not wearing veils, a report said on Friday.
The killings took place in the Thanamandi area of Rajouri district on Thursday, three days after posters asking girls to wear ”burqas” (veils) appeared in the area, the United News of India reported.
Two of the women in their late teens and early twenties were shot dead and one was beheaded, officials said. All the victims were students and were suspected to have
attracted the militants’ wrath for not wearing veils.
Security forces have cordoned off the entire area and launched a search for the killers. However, none of militant groups operating in the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir has claimed responsibility for the crime.
The poster urging girls to wear veils was brought out by a little known militant group called Lashkar-e-Jabbar. – Sapa-DPA
