The two men who allegedly confessed to the gruesome Sizzlers massage parlour massacre that shocked Cape Town in January appeared briefly in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The men, 43-year-old Trevor Basil Theys of Mitchell’s Plain and 27-year-old Adam Roy Woest, of Sea Point, were led from the Caledon Square police station to the courts shackled in leg irons and wearing balaclavas.
In a public gallery packed with curious onlookers and family members, the men were emotionless as the charges were put to them. Both face nine counts of murder, one of attempted murder, one of robbery with aggravating circumstances and one of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Theys, with greying hair at the temples nervously clutched his hands together while the bespectacled Woest stared ahead impassively as senior prosecutor David Jacobs put the charges to the pair.
Jacobs said that should any bail application be lodged it would be heard in the Cape Town Regional Court because of the seriousness of the offences and the public profile of the case.
The case was postponed to February 25 for further investigation and the two were remanded to Goodwood Prison. – Sapa
