SE races ahead, fuelled by rand, Dow

The JSE Securities Exchange South Africa (JSE) raced ahead at the opening on Tuesday, fuelled by a weaker rand and strong rebound on the Dow overnight. Heavyweight dual- listed stocks, benefiting from both the currency and stronger world markets, led the charge.

At 0919, the all share and all share industrial indices were 2,02% and 2,15% stronger respectively. Financials were 2% firmer, while resources were 1,95% in the black. The platinum mining index was up 1,97%, while the banks index had bounced 2,35%.

The gold mining index again bucked the trend and was 1,77% weaker. The rand was trading at 8,2050 to the dollar from 8,1410 when the JSE closed on Monday, while gold was quoted at $338,20 an ounce from $340,90/oz at the JSE’s last close. – I-Net-Bridge
