Domestic employers urged to register for UIF

Over 330 000 employers of domestic workers have registered with the Unemployment Insurance Fund, the Unemployment Insurance Commissioner announced in Pretoria on Monday.

Commissioner Shakes Mkhonto also assured those employers that had not yet registered that they would not be prosecuted when they come into register.

He emphasised that all employers should register before the Department begins dispatching inspectors to conduct blitzes.

”Those employers who have registered have until May 7 to pay the UIF contributions. The employer has to ensure that two percent of the domestic worker’s salary, consisting of a one percent contribution from the domestic’s salary and one percent directly from the employer is paid into either the UIF bank accounts, UIF offices or labour centres,” the Commissioner said.

”All employers making late payment are liable for penalties. These are calculated at 10% of the outstanding amount plus 15,5% interest,” the Commissioner said. – I-Net-Bridge
