South African men plagued by erection problems will soon be able to buy a new product from pharmacies countrywide which will give them more than an 80% chance of enhancing their sexual status.
One dose of the new medicine will be effective for a 36-hour period.
Pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly said in Johannesburg on Wednesday its new medicine, an ”oral PDE5 inhibitor,” had been approved by the Medicines Control Council of South Africa and would be available on prescription from the end of May.
It would be competitively priced compared with other treatment options in the same class.
Eli Lilly said in primary efficacy studies involving 1 112 men — 804 drug, 308 placebo — with mild to severe erectile dysfunction, up to 81% of those given Eli Lilly’s new treatment reported improved erections compared with 35% of those taking placebo.
Eli Lilly said the medicine, which was launched in Europe, Australia and New Zealand two months ago, had already provided an important treatment option for millions of men.
Eli Lilly claimed erection problems affected 52% of men over the age of 40 globally. – Sapa
