The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has called the overall cereal harvest prospects in southern Africa “generally favourable” with the exceptions of Zimbabwe, parts of Swaziland and southern Mozambique.
An FAO report warned that food and crop prospects in Zimbabwe remained grim. The organisation said farmers in southern Africa needed help in marketing any available surplus and in preparing for the next cropping season. Additional and more detailed information will be available once an ongoing joint FAO/World Food Programme Crop and Food Supply Assessment Missions to Angola, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe are completed, the report said.
The FAO identified Angola, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe as facing food emergencies. – I-Net-Bridge
