The salaries of South Africa’s government ministers have been published in the government gazette, with it reporting that Deputy President Jacob Zuma earns a total remuneration package of R821 190 a year.
This includes a motor vehicle allowance of R164 238 a year and a basic salary of R656 952 a year.
Ministers — retrospective from April 1 — will earn from R678 660 (including a car allowance of R135 732 a year) up to a package of R712 605 (and a car allowance of R142 521), with a top category of R746 535 (with a car allowance of R149 307 a year). Their packages will depend on their seniority in the cabinet.
Deputy ministers earn between R551 610, including a car allowance of R110 322, up to R579 195, including a car allowance of R115 839, up to a top category of R606 765 and a car allowance of R121 353.
According to expenditure estimates of the Public Works Department the minister’s salary was scheduled to increase to R746 000, rising to R791 000 in 2004/05 and R835 000 in 2005/06.
The increases are in the region of 7,5% between 2002/03 to 2003/04. – I-Net Bridge
