Nicky Boje set to return home

Nicky Boje has been given the go ahead to fly home on Wednesday following a consultation with the orthopedic surgeon who performed the operation on his left leg last Thursday.

Boje completed a nine hour round trip from Taunton to Nottingham and back to hear the good news that he will be reunited with his wife and month old son Nico on Thursday morning.

Boje confirmed on Tuesday that he will be out of action for at least four months.

”The doctor said I will be in plaster for six to eight weeks, followed by a month on crutches, after which I can start a slow programme of rehabilitation. He said I should make a full recoverey from the injury,” explained Boje.

Naturally I am disappointed, but the up side is that I will get to spend a lot of time with my wife and son.”

He will have the stitches removed from his leg next week and, depending on the progress of his rehabilitation and fitness, the all-rounder is aiming to be up and running by December. His other great sporting passion, golf, will also take a back seat.

” I’m a bit sorry about that as I ordered new clubs and they arrive next week, I was looking forward to playing with them over the next few months, ” said the five handicapper. Boje fractured the fibula and ruptured the medial ligaments in this left leg when he slipped while fielding as a substitute against England at Edgbaston last Tuesday.

He had been selected for the one-day international squad and played in three of South Africa’s seven NatWest series matches and was due to fly home after last Saturday’s final. However medical advice was that he should delay flying until this week. – Sapa
